A5 River Ceiriog

Sabre Jetting recently completed the removal of approximately 10m3 of concrete to the bridge deck on the A5 near Chirk nearly two days ahead of schedule. The bridge deck was constructed in the early 1980s. It was quite heavily reinforced and post tensioned.

During the removal the tendon anchor plates were partially exposed meaning the operators had to show particular skills to remove the concrete around the end plates without exposing the plates themselves. This was all done whilst giving the contractor enough room to install the new deck joint.

Six Sabre jetting operators and four team leaders were deployed with two Siltbuster HD units and three tanker-based jetting units. Covid 19 precautions were also taken, booking 9 rooms at a local hotel and provision of 4 additional small vans to avoid vehicle sharing.

David Malin, MD of Sabre Jetting said afterwards “the team worked fantastically to achieve the removal in that short space of time. The organisation and equipment deployed showed Sabre Jetting are the subcontractor of choice for tight program “round the clock working” project ”.
